Actor Macon Blair makes his directorial debut with
I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore
, which premiered at Sundance and is now streaming on Netflix. The dark comedy stars Melanie Lynskey as a nurse who decides to take the law into her own hands with the help of a neighbor (Elijah Wood).
Blair speaks to
The Moveable Fest
about the film including choosing to cast Lynskey and Wood against type. “
I’ve loved Melanie’s work for a long time, but she does seem to play more introspective characters,” says Blair. “I don’t think I’d seen her in a thriller/caper kind of story, at least not that I could think of off the top of my head recently, so that just seemed like a lot of fun and I thought it would be unusual and exciting to see her running around in the woods, squaring off against these criminal bad guys. And by the same token, Elijah is very charismatic and likable and it was just amusing to me to set him up as this strange, a little bit irritating character at the beginning, and I suspect it was fun for him to do something a little different. But it’s always fun to put people up in a different light than what you’ve seen them do before.”
