Judd Apatow talks to Indiewire about his first documentary, Doc & Daryl, part of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series. The film, co-directed with Michael Bonfiglio, tells the story of former Mets players Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, known for their incredible talent as well as their substance abuse problems.
“I thought it would be much more uplifting. As it went along, I think we became more and more aware of how recent some of their troubles were, so it changed the documentary in a big way,” says Apatow before adding, “I’m glad that it humanizes them and tells people what their lives have been like.”
