Jonás Cuarón’s ‘Desierto’ Is “a Version of ‘Gravity’ with its Feet on the Ground”

It might be hard to believe but Jonás Cuarón’s directorial debut Desierto was actually the inspiration for another famous film he co-wrote with his father, Alfonso Cuarón–Gravity.

The new film is about an illegal mexican immigrant who crosses the U.S. border (Gael Garcia Bernal) and the vigiliante (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) who wants to hunt him down.

“Like Gravity, the story [in Desierto] stems from a character juxtaposed against an environment,” Cuarón tells Where to Watch. “It’s a version of Gravity with its feet on the ground.”
