Jamie-James Medina Directs a Beautiful Metaphor for Memory in Sampha Music Video

An intimate piano performance becomes a dance piece becomes an emotional visualization of loss in Jamie-James Medina’s music video for Sampha’s “(No One Knows Me) Like the Piano.”

I’ve never spoken to Sampha about this, but there is a feeling of love and loss that runs through his lyrics and melodies and this song forced me to think about how those emotions evolve over time,” Medina tells Promo News. “My father passed away when I was 18 and I often try to remember his voice. We have no recordings of him in conversation, no video – but would I still recognize his voice? That was the simple idea that I wanted to explore – how we hold onto memories – which led to this idea of disintegration.”
