This week’s episode of Modern Family took a break from format. The entire thing took place on a desktop computer and the whole episode was shot with a range of Apple products including iPhones, iPads and a MacBook Pro, which affected the show’s post-production workflow as well.
The show was edited in Avid Media Composer and Adobe After Effects with an added layer of encoding into Apple ProRes. As editor Tony Orcena tells The Hollywood Reporter, “Since [the camera footage] isn’t exactly broadcast quality we didn’t want to degrade it.”
