Following thousands of events taking place in more than 190 countries, International Jazz Day 2017 culminated with a concert streamed worldwide from Havana’s Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso. Hosted by Will Smith, the April 30 concert featured performances from Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Esperanza Spalding, Quincy Jones and more than 50 other artists.
Switching the live show was Jose Burgos of BurgosFX, a NewTek TriCaster operator and trainer. Video equipment called into action for the broadcast and live streaming production included a NewTek TriCaster 860 eight-input multicamera live production system with IP workflow, with TriCaster Advanced Edition software; eight Sony HDC-2500 cameras with studio kits; two camera control units (CCU) and operators; a remote-controlled tower camera on dolly tracks; NewTek’s IsoCorder Pro to record source footage and output via NewTek NDI IP technology from the network; and Convergent Design Odyssey 7Q+ recorders for redundant recordings of the camera feeds and output.
In addition to its use on the live production, the TriCaster assisted in the archiving process of the raw sources and the final program. Burgos explains, “I did program out and cameras one through three IsoCording on the TriCaster 860, and on the IsoCorder Pro system I did cameras four through eight.”
The live show fed directly to Cuba TV, while a delayed broadcast was streamed to YouTube and Facebook.
