This Ikea Spot Hilariously Imagines Social Media in the 1700s

What if our obsession with documenting our meals and sharing them on social media took place in the 17th century?

A wry new Ikea spot imagines just that, when an aristocratic family hires a still-life painter to document their meal, and then has the painting taken to a variety of locales including the town square and a royal court–with everyone of course giving their enthusiastic thumbs up or thumbs down (or even a double-clap).

The spot ends with a reminder that “it’s a meal, not a competition,” nudging its viewers to enjoy life’s moments for what they are instead of constantly trying to share perfection online.
