Watch: Seamus McGarvey Breaks Down One of His Most Famous Long Takes

Seamus McGarvey deconstructs the famous beach scene long take he shot for "Atonement"

In the below video, cinematographer Seamus McGarvey explains what it’s like being known for long takes, his reluctance to sometimes do them, and then deconstructs the famous beach scene long take he shot for Atonement.

“I’m not a great fan of long shots,” says McGarvey, “but they’re brilliant for a cinematographer. I mean, I love doing them, it’s just I always find they sit awkwardly within a body of a film unless a film is a sequence of long shots.”
