David Heuring of Variety delves into how new camera technology made the cinematography of 2014 films like Birdman, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Noah possible.

Says cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki about the seamless long takes of Birdman, “For Birdman, we were trying to tell the story with very long shots that make you feel as though you are in there with the actors. And the equipment helped make it possible, because the shots are insanely long — much longer than what a film magazine could do.”
