Baz Luhrmann’s Netflix show The Get Down tells the story of the birth of hip hop and the Bronx kids who were at the heart of it. The show counts real pioneer Grandmaster Flash as one of its associate producers.
“When we did this in the ‘70s, we didn’t record it,” Flash said during a panel at TCA, as reported by ProMaxBDA Brief. “So now this particular era can become a topic of discussion. When you have no documentation it’s difficult to explain to people. That Baz wanted to do this is a blessing. Nobody wanted to tell the story.”
