Explosions in the Sky’s new album Scenes from the Wilderness has nine instrumental tracks, and now each of those tracks has an accompanying visual. Eschewing the normal music video, each track starts off with a photograph taken by the band’s guitarist Munaf Rayani, that slowly morphs and mutates as the track goes on.
The photographs were brought to life by multimedia designers CHIPS. “The band gave us a folder of striking and mysterious photos from their worldwide excursions—cryptic travelogue,” CHIPS’ Adam Squires tells Fast Company‘s Co.Create. “We chose one to go with each track, and worked with Eric Overton, an amazing animator and visual effects artist, to slowly alter and degrade it, turning it into a sort of moving painting.”
