Here’s a perfect example of drone cinematography being able to handily capture something that would have previously been almost impossible (or, at the very least, extremely dangerous).
Eric Cheng of DJI and photographer Ragnar Th. Sigurdsson used a DJI Phantom 2 and GoPro to capture this active Icelandic volcano. Explains Wired, “The trip to the volcano had to happen within a day-long window on Sept. 20 when skies would most likely be clear and winds would be blowing in the right direction to avoid exposure to poisonous gases. Cheng wanted to shoot at night, when the glow of the lava would be most prominent.”
