Feras Fayyad and Steen Johanessen’s new documentary Last Men in Aleppo, which premiered at Sundance, attempts to show a different, more human side to the conflict in Syria.
“It wasn’t about getting the story out there fast for us,” Fayyad tells realscreen. “We wanted to get people’s eyes behind the war – it’s about the war, but it’s not about the war. It’s a story that is encompassed by that conflict, but we’re trying to get the human story out to the world…How we could tell a story about the war and horrors of the war with a cinematic feeling.”
