The Cast and Crew of ‘True Story’ Talk About Their Gothic Tale

Feature film True Story tells the bizarre (but true) story of disgraced New York Times journalist Michael Finkel (played by Jonah Hill) who eventually had his identity stolen by an accused murderer on the lam named Christian Longo (played by James Franco). The relationship that eventually developed between the two men forms the basis of Rupert Goold’s film, based on Finkel’s memoir True Story: Murder, Memoir, Mea Culpa.

As Goold says in the behind-the-scenes featurette below, “I felt like that was really in the air, this idea of what happens when you lose everything. What was he going to do?…The film moves into a kind of gothic area, becomes good and evil.”
