‘Calvary’ Director John Michael McDonagh on Creating Heroes Instead of Anti-Heroes

Calvary writer/director John Michael McDonagh talks to The New York Times about how his relationship with both his successful younger brother and his home country of Ireland inform his darkly comedic works.

Says McDonagh about creating a character that is a hero and not an anti-hero, “It seems all characters in movies these days are ironic hipsters. t’s tricky to follow a genuinely good person who’s always being sincere.”
