Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera Brings Video Game Aesthetic to Stylish Sci-Fi Short

Nguyen-Anh Nguyen’s stylish sci-fi short “Temple” takes place in 2085 when a virus and cyborgs threatens the survival of the human population.

To create the film’s distinct look on a budget, Nguyen turned to the Blackmagic URSA 4K for the film’s primary camera and a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera fitted into a back brace to get a very specific viewpoint during the film’s big fight scene.

“Often in martial arts fight scenes, a wide angle flat shot means that all of the action is on screen, however I wanted something different and I started to think about shots that you get in gaming, particularly third person viewpoints,” Nguyen tells MovieMachine. “If you were able to get a camera into this perspective, it would create a shot that is new to the genre, but well recognized by younger generations who have grown up consuming so much video content.”
