Behind the Tense Opening Scene of ‘American Sniper’

Editor Joel Cox speaks to The Hollywood Reporter about the intense opening sequence of Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper, in which Navy SEAL Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper) sees a mother hand a grenade to her 10-year-old son…and must decide whether to shoot him.

“To open a film like this — you are right on the edge of your seat from the beginning. The audience hasn’t had a chance to settle in,” Cox explains.
