This past weekend, artist Tacita Dean and director Christopher Nolan gathered in front of 500 attendees at Los Angeles’ Getty Center Museum to discuss the future of celluloid and implore Hollywood to not throw film away as a medium.
As Dean stated, “Film is another protagonist. It invents things that you cannot imagine…The thing we have to resist most of all is this description that it is dying, old-fashioned, and that if you want to use it, that you are in some way retrogressive, that you are a luddite. I think that has been so dangerous…No one wants to be seen as backward-looking, so they advocate for digital.”
