Adding to its already sprawling network of talent, Anonymous has signed Mexican filmmaker, screenwriter and film producer Alfonso Cuarón to its commercial division.
The internationally acclaimed Cuarón’s most recent work, Children of Men (Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine), was nominated for three Academy Awards. He has also directed a number of Harry Potter movies, progressively working to better express the unique atmosphere of the book series. His Spanish-language feature film Y Tu Mamá También earned a Best Original Screenplay Academy Award nomination and enjoyed major international success. Commercial credits include spots for Nike, Pac Bell, and Miller, with an Emmy win for PBS Fish out of Fallon Minneapolis. Cuarón’s early work included adaptations of the Frances Hodgson Burnett novel A Little Princess and Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, which starred Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert De Niro.
“There are not too many filmmakers with Alfonso’s credentials,” said Anonymous executive producer/head of commercials Dave Morrison. “He has a rare insight into human nature and the even scarcer ability to convert those instincts into a story. We are really looking forward to doing whatever we can to help Alfonso put out more incredible work into the advertising space.”
In addition to his putting together his films, Cuarón founded Esperanto Films, a production and distribution company with credits on the films Duck Season and Pan’s Labyrinth. Prior to joining Anonymous, Cuarón helmed spots via Susanne Preissler’s Independent Media.
