Oscar-winning Birdman director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s latest project, The Revenant, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a frontiersman braving the elements. It was precisely those elements which caused the most trouble for the cast and crew, when they ended up shooting in Calgary during the warmest winter on record and amid constantly changing weather conditions.
“Nobody’s going to go to a film because the guys came in on time and under budget,” Inarritu said at a panel at the PGA, as reported by Deadline. “Your mission, your ambition should never be compromised. Never surrender to that…I have to feel uncertain, to have a lot of doubts. If I know the answers already, I personally do not feel [it’s the right project for me]. I need that adrenaline. For me, it was a beautiful experience.”
