A Journey Through India, Powered by LaCie

Much of We SF’s short film “The Ramayan,” a live action English adaptation of the Indian epic The Ramayan, was shot deep in the jungles of India, which presented significant production challenges, including difficult terrain and ever-changing weather. The crew needed a data storage solution large enough to comfortably hold all of the production’s 4K footage and robust enough to handle the challenges of filming in the jungle. We SF turned to LaCie to safely manage and store their data. LaCie Rugged RAID mobile drives, 4 TB each, were used in the field. At the production house, the footage was uploaded to a 30 TB LaCie 5big Thunderbolt 2.

Transferring hundreds of gigabytes of footage can be a painstaking process, but with the speed of the Thunderbolt connection, it was a snap. We SF estimates that the production saved days of time that would have been spent on data transfers—not only speeding up production, but also helping to lower costs.

Above all, the team chose LaCie for its reliability. “Hands down, what’s most important is knowing that your data will be there when you need it,” according to Ronnie Allman, creative director at We SF. “I take risks creatively, but when it comes to storing footage, I’m pretty straightforward. I use what works time and time again.”
