How ‘Operation Avalanche’ Recreated Stanley Kubrick From High-Res Stills

Matt Johnson’s Operation Avalanche is presented as a faux-documentary about two CIA agents tasked with faking the 1969 moon landing.

Within the film, the characters visit Stanley Kubrick on the set of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and thus interact with the legendary director–a feat made challenging by the rarity of archival footage of Kubrick from that era. The solution involved high-res stills, 3D projections, and green screen.
