‘Game of Thrones’ Camera Operators on How the Story Informs the Framing

"The story's the key thing, isn't it?" says camera operator Ben Wilson.

In the below video, Game of Thrones‘ camera operators discuss their work having the “best seat in the house” on the action-packed set of the hit HBO fantasy series.

“The story’s the key thing, isn’t it?” says camera operator Ben Wilson, “A” Camera Operator on the Wolf Unit. “Let’s just say it’s a sad character or an angry character. You immediately start finding a frame that would just be heavier or harder or lower. The mood of the actor will draw you to frame the camera in a slightly different way. Sometimes it’s not just a signature style you might have, it’s what’s happening in front of you which draws the eye to land the frame in a certain way.”
