DP Robert Elswit on His Hybrid Digital and Film Workflow for ‘Nightcrawler’

Cinematographer Robert Elswit talks to Indiewire about lensing two different iterations of Los Angeles for Nightcrawler and Inherent Vice, both of which were at least partially shot on film.

He says, “The [ARRI] Alexa is a fast camera that allows you to shoot in very low lit exteriors and see into the distance that only digital can do. But all the [Nightcrawler] day shots in and around Jake [Gyllenhaal]’s apartment and at the beach were all on film because it was just easier.”
