Director Morgan Neville Experiments With New Storytelling Tools

Publish date:

Oscar-winning director Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom) made use of some brand new technology for his new Netflix feature, Keith Richards: Under the Influence. As Todd Longwell reports in VideoInk, the director is on a roll, with this documentary and his newest project, working "with inventor Alex Kipman, the driving force behind Microsoft’s HoloLens technology, whom he describes as 'a super genius, one of the smartest human beings I’ve ever met.'

"Microsoft describes HoloLens as mixed reality, not virtual reality or augmented reality. It visually overlays three-dimensional holographs over a user’s field of vision that can be manipulated, Minority Report-style. Neville has been working on a series of short videos about HoloLens, as well as a long-form documentary about the technology, with a promise from Kipman that the marketing team would take a hands-off attitude on the latter."
