Director Andrew Haigh Talks Finding the Female POV in ’45 Years’

In the below video from the MoMA Film Contenders series, director Andrew Haigh talks about his new film 45 Years, about a long-married couple whose idyllic relationship is rocked when a decades-old secret comes to light.

Says Haigh about telling the story from the female point-of-view, “When I read the [short story the film is based on], I felt more interested in the female perspective of the story. I feel like there are so many stories and films and novels about the male, late middle-aged existential crisis, and there’s very few of them seem to be about the woman’s perspective. And that never made sense to me as if women don’t go through the same crises about their lives, and their choices, and relationships.”
