'Carol' DP Ed Lachman: The Idea Creates the Image

In the below video from the New York Film Festival, cinematographer Ed Lachman discusses his long-standing relationship with director Todd Haynes and his work on their latest collaboration, Carol.

"I've been very fortunate to work with a lot of visual directors. And that's been a big support for me what I have people who understand that images are about ideas, and they're not just about aesthetic pleasing images. Because for me it's always the idea that creates the image, "says Lachman. "When I work with someone like Todd Haynes...he's someone who always uses cinematic language to comment, not just for aesthetic reasons."

Blackmagic Design announced today that Blackmagic’s DeckLink SDI Micro was used for capture and playback with the pitching tracking system “Baseboy,” a newly announced system by Qoncept Inc. capable of visualizing a ball’s path and interlocking with a camera feed. Baseboy was first used, in conjunction with a Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4K, in the recent Japan/US international baseball match, Samurai Japan Series 2019, broadcast by TV Asahi as Japan’s first real time baseboy analysis system.
