Buyer’s Brief: Video Streaming Platforms

If you’re distributing video to multiple screens, you’ll need to consider what video streaming platform is best for the size, format and content of your projects.

NewTek and Wowza

MediaDS

From NewTek and Wowza Media Systems, MediaDS is a real-time media encoding and live streaming video delivery system. This hardware and software solution merges NewTek’s live production technology with Wowza streaming software in a 1 RU footprint. The result is an end-to-end streaming tool that allows producers to launch their own multichannel content networks from a production site and deliver a live video stream directly to viewers. For enhanced scalability, producers can also create a virtual CDN or edge network by connecting multiple MediaDS units together—either through a local area network or remotely over IP to cross wide geographic boundaries.

Verizon Digital Media Services

Live Streaming Solution

Verizon Digital Media Services’ Live Streaming Solution simplifies the management of live events workflows for broadcasters, venues and event producers streaming live content at scale. This fully integrated solution solves common live events challenges, including location variability, variable live feeds, event life cycle, resource scheduling, content delivery, dynamic ad insertion and more. Verizon’s Live Streaming Solution enables broadcasters to deliver the highest quality live event streams published across any platform and to have full control of monetization—all while lowering costs by eliminating the need for expensive acquisition workflows and equipment to buy and manage.

Comcast Technology Solutions

Direct-to-Consumer Solution

Comcast Technology Solutions, whose portfolio includes the Video Platform for video management, publication, distribution and monetization, has expanded its all-in-one direct-to-consumer (D2C) solution to help content providers quickly and cost-effectively build, launch and manage over-the-top (OTT) experiences. The turnkey solution supports a variety of monetization models, with maximum flexibility and simplified pricing for enterprise customers.

The expanded D2C solution offers complete video processing, management, multi-CDN distribution and playout capabilities, as well as a powerful out-of-the box suite of monetization options spanning subscription management, promotion, storefront enablement and billing. The solution is built with an innovative UX integration layer that allows UX providers to easily develop pre-integrated multiplatform application templates for maximum speed and flexibility.

StreamGuys

SGrecast Update

Bringing SGrecast’s audio podcast recording capabilities to the video domain, the new extensions enable broadcasters and video professionals to easily and automatically transform their live, linear video streams into podcasts and side channels for additional revenue-expanding distribution opportunities.

SGrecast provides transcoding technology for live syndication, and is capable of recording live RTMP, RTSP and HLS streams for conversion to mp4 files. A full suite of scheduling tools enables fully unattended operation, while integrated publishing to RSS feeds, automated delivery and compatibility with popular syndication services streamline distribution.
