‘American Horror Story: Hotel’ Sound Supervisor on Making the Setting Sound Like a Tomb

"Designing the sound of the hotel, which is a character itself, was fun."

The fifth season of American Horror Story brought the creep factor to a Los Angeles hotel setting, thanks in part to the work of the sound team led by sound supervisor Gary Megregian.

“Designing the sound of the hotel, which is a character itself, was fun,” Megregiantells Sound and Picture. “The exterior of the hotel is teeming with life because it’s a big city, but then once you get inside the hotel it’s a very claustrophobic feeling, almost like a tomb. The producers on the show wanted us to suck all of the life out of the hotel interior.”
