Breaking Fourth Productions, the creator of new VR film CTRL–which just screened at TIFF–combined their background in live theater with VR’s organic ties to gaming to create the thriller. The film centers around a gamer trying to win a competition that ends up being much more cutthroat than anyone realized.
“I was specifically interested in the ways that violence in games and in real life are portrayed and talked about,” creator David Kaskel tells IndieWire. “From my perspective the (sometimes) emphasis on the former is at the cost of the discussion of the latter. Real violence is brutal and horrific. It isn’t a game.”
