How ‘Chinatown’ Influenced ‘Jessica Jones’

Jessica Jones showrunner and writer Melissa Rosenberg talks to ICG Magazine about writing the gritty superhero series for Netflix which she calls “essentially a 13-hour movie.”

“[A key influence was] the movie Chinatown, definitely,” she says. “Modern noir. Especially in the way Polanski would hold on a beautiful, cinematic frame and let the actors walk in and out of it. The pacing and naturalism. And also his use of shadow and light.”
