Gigaom's Enrico Signoretti explains the current state of the storage market.
He writes, "The traditional enterprise storage market is declining and there are several reasons why. Some of them are easier to identify than others, but one of the most interesting aspects is that there’s a radicalization in workloads, hence storage requirements. Storage as we know it, SAN or NAS, will become less relevant in the future. We’ve already had a glimpse of it from Hyperconvergence, but this kind of infrastructure is trying to balance all the resources – at the expense of overall efficiency sometimes – and they are more compute-driven than data-driven. Data intensive workloads have different requirements and need different storage solutions."
