Veteran screenwriter Naomi Foner (Running on Empty) still experienced the challenges of any first-time independent filmmaker when financing her directorial debut, Very Good Girls.
She tells The Hollywood Reporter, "We had the movie going several different times, and of course, it didn't until it did. Financing an independent movie is kind of a complicated board game. I think it took almost two-and-a-half years full-time work to get it financed. It was a kind of discouraging process because there were a couple of moments when we thought we were going to start production and were days away from it and it didn't happen."
