RED Announces the New 5K Scarlet-W

Publish date:

RED has announced a new addition to its camera line-up: the Scarlet-W, which will be shipping in February. The camera is capable of shooting 5K at 60fps, 4K at 150 fps, and 2K at 300 fps.It offers a RED Dragon sensor, interchangeable lens mounts, simultaneous recording in REDCODE RAW and Apple ProRes formats, an intelligent OLPF system, and in-camera 3D-LUT outputs. It will be priced at $9,950 for the brain-only version.

Explains, "Like the predecessors whose technologies went into its construction, the Scarlet-W offers the sort of spectacular video RED is famous for by now. Cinema production with this camera is looking to turn out just as good as or even better than that of its older cousins and the Scarlet-W will almost certainly offer the sort of superb dynamic range, extraordinary video quality, color and organic RAW settings that almost any videographer would love. Combined with massive resolution at some truly rarified frame rates, the Scarlet-W is going to almost surely be yet another major pillar in the reputation that RED has built for itself in the video production world and in especially in the world of 4K UHD shooting."
