Asset Management, Storage and the Cloud
Thursday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Room 209B

10 a.m. The ROI of Preserving, Digitizing and Integrating Legacy Video Libraries into Your DAM
For media and government agencies large and small, digitizing and archiving an entire library of video assets can be a daunting task. However, these video assets are at the core of a company’s business, so taking care of them and providing a suitable long-term storage solution is critical. And, there are many savings, efficiencies and business values to be had once these assets are digitized and made part of your digital workflow. Digitizing these assets and using active archives to store them gives companies immediate access to all of their assets, disaster recovery protection and reduction in operating expenses while also guaranteeing that these assets will be available for years to come. This presentation will showcase a model of preservation from two large broadcast networks where highlights packages and archive footage is an integral part of their operations.
Speaker: Hossein ZiaShakeri, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Spectra Logic

11 a.m. Integrated Media Asset Management for Production and Acquisition Workflows
Media Asset Management (MAM) systems have been deployed in broadcast environments since the advent of tape-based storage to help store, catalog and retrieve media assets. While many improvements have been made to these systems, the management of media assets has remained a relatively separate function from the associated production and playout operations. At best, specific, individual tasks have been integrated, however, still missing is a MAM infrastructure that fully integrates asset management across the entire production workflow—from scheduling and acquisition to broadcast, distribution and archiving. Recent advances in information technology, however, now make it possible to perform this full degree of integration using a concept called “Integrated Media Management.”
Speaker: Luc Comeau, Business Development Manager, Dalet Digital Media Systems

12 p.m. From Analog to Digital and onto the Cloud
Content owners large and small struggle to manage ever-growing libraries of analog and digital assets. As a result, traditional and nontraditional content providers are looking at ways to abstract the complexities inherent in managing media assets and simplify time-consuming manual workflows. The digitization and monetization of analog content is where media asset management, archiving, and metadata management become foundational elements for driving increased consumption of content. This session will identify options for managing or repurposing content within a file-based workflow, and how that content can be published efficiently to traditional distribution channels or to the ever-growing number of consumer electronic devices.
Speaker: Dave Polyard, Senior Vice President of Strategic Sales, Front Porch Digital

1 p.m. Radically Simple, Radically Affordable Media Management
Media asset management and archive management have traditionally been addressed by very expensive, complex solutions--however, it's now possible for small workgroups to deploy a media asset management system that doesn't require any changes to workflows, and can be set up in an afternoon rather than weeks or months. axle Video's solution takes full advantage of recent advances in technology, especially browser-based applications, iPads and other accessible mobile devices, and a new level of computing power in small appliance servers like Apple's Mac mini.
Speaker: Sam Bogoch, CEO and co-founder, axle Video
