Pro Media Conference at GV Expo Spotlight: Leveraging HEVC/H.265 Compression for Greater Situational Awareness & Actionable Intelligence

Publish date:

Introduced at last year’s Government Video Expo, the Pro Media Conference offers the latest information and techniques for those working in government-related media operations. The excellent lineup of presentations will include discussions of new technologies, as well as targeted looks at creating, managing and delivering content for government agencies. Developed with both government-operated and private production organizations in mind, the Pro Media Conference will explore the media needs of government and ways to fulfill those needs.

Leveraging High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC)/H.265 Compression for Greater Situational Awareness and Actionable Intelligence
Presented by Keith Wymbs, VP Marketing, Elemental Technologies
Thursday, December 5th at 9 AM

Accessibility to UAV-borne video compression codecs that can process huge volumes of HD content in real time and in a minimal footprint are vital to U.S. military initiatives. Traditional video compression approaches, such as MPEG-2 and H.264, cannot keep pace with high-volume HD video. The High Efficiency Video Codec (HEVC or H.265) is designed to provide high-quality video at substantially lower bit rates. HEVC/H.265 encoding presents computational complexities for which the massively parallel GPU architectures are well-suited. Elemental has deep experience implementing video codecs from specification to full implementation using programmable GPUs and standard software tools. This presentation will illustrate how H.265 can enable more informed warfighters and ISR analysts and support their commitment to achieving the mission.
