Michael Almereyda's Experimenter is a biopic on controversial social psychologist Stanley Milgram. Throughout the film, Almereyda uses unconventional filming techniques such as breaking the fourth wall and back projections.

"Why make a movie, a conventional movie about an unconventional man?" Almereyda tells Fandor. "He was someone insisting that you think around the corners and go underneath expected conventional thinking. It seemed like it was necessary to try to jump forward like that to be as inventive and playful as he was, to honor him with that tone and to try to match it. To do anything less would have to been to undermine what he was about and who he was and what he wanted to convey."
