VR Tech Takes Its Place in New Media Arts Program

San Jose State University’s CADRE (Computers in Art, Design, Research and Education) Laboratory for New Media Art is embracing virtual reality, specifically in relation to 3D.

SAN JOSE, CALIF.—San Jose State University’s CADRE (Computers in Art, Design, Research and Education) Laboratory for New Media Art is embracing virtual reality, specifically in relation to 3D. According to Insights, educators and students at the Lab are exploring opportunities to apply commercial 3D technologies in VR settings for artistic purposes. “We need to think abstractly about this technology and how to use it as art,” said Andrew Blanton, SJSU assistant professor and CADRE Media Lab area coordinator.
