Video: Japanese Craft Makes Fiery Plunge From Space

The astronomers were aboard NASA's DC-8 airborne laboratory, using multiple cameras and other imaging instruments.

This is some awesome real-life footage: Astronomers from NASA, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and elsewhere captured the descent and breakup of the Hayabusa spacecraft on June 13.

The astronomers were aboard NASA’s DC-8 airborne laboratory, using multiple cameras and other imaging instruments. Hayabusa traveled 1.25 billion miles over seven years to return a sample of the asteroid Itokawa.
