Vicon, provider of motion capture products for the defense, life science and entertainment industries, said Wednesday that Motile Robotics Inc., developer of bio-inspired technologies, has purchased a 16 camera T160 Vicon motion capture system with Nexus and Tracker software.
The system will be used for a 10-year research project tracking multiple Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) and ground robots as part of the U.S. Army Research ?Laboratory (ARL) Micro Autonomous Systems and Technology (MAST) ?Collaborative Technology Alliance (CTA). The MAST CTA is a research ?consortium with members from academia, industry and the U.S. Army.?
?Motile Robotics will be collaborating on the project with consortium lead ?BAE Systems, ARL, and the MAST Consortium Members. The project will be? managed from Motile Robotics corporate headquarters in Joppa, Md.?
?The Vicon system will be installed in ARL’s Experimentation Center and will? include three areas representing different environments: a jungle, a rough-?terrain desert and a two-story urban dwelling. Motile Robotics chose the? Vicon T160 camera for its ability to quickly and accurately monitor the?movements of UAVs, MAVs and ground robots thanks to the 16-megapixel ?resolution and Gigabit Ethernet connection.?

?The 16 camera system was installed in March 2010 with plans for the initial ?kickoff of the experimentation centre in April 2010.?
