New Drone Partnership Announced at Public Safety Tech Conference

Drone-maker DJI and Axon team up to help police departments

LOS ANGELES — Public safety agencies will soon have access to new drones and a companion cloud-based data management system after a newly announced partnership between DJI, the drone and aerial imaging technology company, and Axon, a provider of connected law enforcement technologies.

At the Axon Accelerate conference, a conference targeted to police, security, legal and technology professionals, Axon and DJI announced a new partnership by which DJI drones will become available to public safety and law enforcement agencies through the new Axon Air program. This program will connect DJI drone technology with Axon’s cloud-based management platform called

According to the companies, more than 900 American public safety agencies currently use drone technology to support tactical actions, reconstruct traffic collisions, support public safety at large events, perform search-and-rescue missions and improve officer safety.

“DJI’s partnership with Axon allows law enforcement agencies to add drone capabilities and data services through the same trusted provider they rely on for the tools, data and support they need to do their jobs safely and effectively,” said Michael Perry, managing director of North America at DJI.

“Law enforcement agencies are rapidly adopting drones for their work, and often need guidance on how to establish a drone program and integrate it into their departments. DJI’s Axon Air partnership will strengthen and enhance law enforcement’s ability to protect public safety, respond to emergencies and save lives.”

Axon’s platform offers data management, chain-of-custody controls and security protocols for gathering and managing data from body cameras and in-car video systems. Drones currently available through the Axon Air program include the Phantom 4 Pro and Matrice 210.
