Blackmagic Design unveiled its Mini Converter Optical Fiber, which simultaneously converts from SDI to optical fiber and from optical fiber to SDI, and instantly switches among all SD, HD and 3Gbps formats and allows fiber lengths up to 45 km—all at less than $500. It teams with the new HDLink Optical Fiber, a monitoring solution for DVI and HDMI displays with both regular 3Gbps SDI and 3 Gbps optical fiber connections for SD, HD and 2K full-resolution monitoring.
Friday, the company announced new Converter Utility 1.0 software for download for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms, adding new features to existing Mini Converter software. These include a high-quality HD downconverter in the Mini Converter SDI-to-Analog model, and support for 1080p/50/60 via 3Gbps SDI on the Mini Converter SDI-to-HDMI model.
Converter Utility 1.0 takes advantage of the built in USB connection on all models of Mini Converters to allow adjustments and settings to be changed. This means all adjustments of video and audio levels can be completed via a simple and easy to use software interface.
In all, Blackmagic Design is unveiled 17 hardware products at the 2009 NAB Show—routers, converters, fiber and linkages—along with five software upgrades to give more power to users. All the company’s new products include support for 3Gbps SDI.
The company rolled out its large Enterprise Videohub, a 144×288 SDI router. Like other Videohub offerings, it automatically switches between SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3 Gbps SDI on each input. The company also unveiled the Broadcast Videohub (72×144) and Studio Videohub for smaller operations. At 16×32 and 2 RU, it’s more powerful and smaller than its predecessor, the Workgroup Videohub.
