Montana Veterans Testing Groundbreaking Virtual Reality Software

New VR platform helps diagnose disorder often confused for PTSD

MISSOULA, MONT.—PTSD is a major, unseen concern for soldiers returning from war, but it is not the only one and a new virtual reality system has been developed to help correctly identify diagnosis for veterans. Virtual Mind is the VR system that is helping to diagnose and treat vestibular disorder, which is damage to the inner ear caused by loud noises that can cause problems from balance to mood. Using multiple sensors and controllers, Virtual Mind tests visual and auditory reaction time, mobility and working memory through tests in a virtual environment. Currently, Virtual Mind is being used by the Rural Institute Veterans Education and Research organization in Missoula, Mont.
