LAS VEGAS–Attendance for InfoComm 2016 was down slightly from a year ago but there was a record number of exhibitors and exhibit space.
InfComm reported that 38,833 visitors attended the show, which ran June 4-10, down from the record attendance of 39,105 at the 2015 show. The number of exhibitors, however, crossed the 1,000 mark for the first time with 211 new vendors added to the show floor. Occupied space for both exhibits and educational sessions were also a record, taking up 527,105 net square feet of space in the Las Vegas Convention Center.
“The market is constantly changing and we’ve been pleased to introduce new features at InfoComm, such as drones, the Internet of Things, and content creation and streaming, which reflect the dynamic nature of commercial AV. In all, 91 percent of space was rebooked for next year, demonstrating exhibitors’ strong commitment to the show,” said Jason McGraw, CTS, CAE, senior vice president of expositions, InfoComm International.
Educational sessions were particularly popular, with attendance reaching a new milestone. More than 12,000 seats were filled at the InfoComm University sessions throughout the week, more than double from 2015 according to the organization. InfoComm attributed the spike in educational attendance to an increase in the 2,620 seminar and workshop packages sold. This year’s show was the first time attendees could pay one price for taking any of the more than 100 course options available during the days the exhibit floor was open.
A record 252 attendees registered to take a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) exam during the show, with 186 receiving their certification.
Several new innovative products in the A/V world made their debut at InfoComm as well. The Government Video staff awarded several products deemed as beneficial for video and audio professionals in the public sector with NewBay Media Best of Show Awards.
InfoComm 2017 will take place June 10-16 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
