InfoComm 09 is expected to draw 30,000 attendees this year and 850 exhibitors. As if Orlando isn’t hot enough in June, InfoComm 09 is being held at the Orange County Convention Center June 14-19, with the show floor opening June 17-19.
Officials expect the show to draw 30,000 attendees and welcome 450,000 square feet of exhibit space, including audio demo rooms and meeting space. With more than 850 exhibitors on hand, the show will offer an array of AV technologies, conferencing classes, and education sessions.
“Attending InfoComm’s tradeshow provides a tremendous return on an attendee’s investment of both time and money,” said Randal Al Lemke executive director of Infocomm International. “If you are looking at using conferencing or telepresence to promote business continuity, carbon emissions reduction, collaborative research and development or even work-life balance, attending InfoComm 09 is an effective use of time and resources. It’s the only place to see a comprehensive array of integrated conferencing and other AV solutions. In addition, attendees can also take advantage of education and training from leading experts and manufacturers while they are at the show.”
This year, InfoComm 09 is welcoming 100 new exhibitors to its show floor. In spite of the weakened economy, “We’re having the largest videoconferencing demonstration that we’ve ever had, and we’re also making some application changes to the Digital Signage Application Showcase. Off the show floor, half of our education sessions are brand new. The idea is to train attendees in the hottest technology while giving them the opportunity to see what’s next in AV on the floor,” said Jason McGraw, senior vice president of expositions for InfoComm International.
“When we hear from systems integrators and other company owners about their business, we hear mostly that it’s still good. Some businesses are hiring new staff, the pipeline may be shorter but the work is there, you have to work harder to secure the same amount of work, and other somewhat upbeat reports about the actual performance of their companies. We know that manufacturers, especially those who service both the residential and commercial markets, have been harder hit,” McGraw said.
He was quick to point out that 2008 was generally an “up” year for AV market spending. According to InfoComm’s numbers, 43 percent of end-users increased their spending in 2008 compared with 2007, and only 22 percent cut their spending.
“The situation for 2009 is also not bleak,” McGraw said. “Responses are about equally divided between those who see a decrease in AV expenditures (33.7 percent) and those who see AV expenditures remaining the same (34.3 percent). About one-quarter forecast continued growth in their AV spending, and the government market is expected to be a prime growth area. In general, those who boosted spending last year are more likely to say they will keep spending at the same level or higher.”
He’s bullish about the show’s attendance too.
“We are expecting it to be the largest show we have ever had on the East Coast, and similar in size to InfoComm 07, which was then a record-setting show in Anaheim,” he said. “The show will still be plenty big with all of the technology that you can see only at InfoComm.”
