The front page of the Discovery Building’s website
This week’s featured website of the week is the Discovery Building, a promotion site for a public research space owned and operated by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The site features general information about the building, the many programs it offers for all age groups and bios on the two research institutes that call the Discovery Building home –the private Morgridge Institute for Research and the public Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
Site visitors are greeted with a sleek and modern design and to a front page that encourages scrolling through information instead of clicking on links. Through the website the general public is able to explore the variety of options open to them, from do-it-yourself science labs and science fairs to lecture series and after school programs for kids. The site is also used to reserve a meeting room or an event or party space.
The site has a video archive of the many lectures done at the Discovery Building, as well. The videos feature the speaker in one frame and their PowerPoint slide in another. Those can be seen here.
