Government Video Website of the Week: Military OneSource

A 24/7 resource for military members and families, it also includes a DoD-approved video sharing system

It goes without saying, but life in the military is a different experience from the civilian world — both for individuals in uniform and for their families. Military OneSource aims to make navigating military life easier.

Billed as a “24/7 Resource for Military Members, Spouses & Families,” the site provides quick links to social services, financial planning, communication tools and other resources that a military member or family member might need. The site is organized by service branch, and includes a section with resources for those serving in the National Guard or Reserve.

Video is included in various sections of the site, but for those away from their family while on deployment, it is the TroopTube section that is especially important.

TroopTube is designed to help military families connect and keep in touch while miles apart. It includes tools for easy upload of video from anywhere with an Internet connection. To address concerns about bandwidth demands in theater, TroopTube automatically re-encodes videos at several different compressions schemes and serves the appropriate version based upon the viewers connection capabilities.

TroopTube is powered by Delve Networks’s online video and content management system. Delve was acquired by Limelight Networks in early August and is being incorporated as the Video Platform Solutions business unit of Limelight.

Military OneSource and TroopTube are authorized programs of the Department of Defense.
