Government Video Website of the Week: Defense Media Activity

Website showcases the video work of professional and non-professionals

Showcasing professionally and non-professionally-produced videos that detail multiple aspects of life in the military is one of the missions of the Department of Defense agency, Defense Media Activity, and the DMA’s website greatly reflects that mission.
Headquartered at a new, state-of-the-art broadcast facility in Fort Meade, Md., the DMA serves all branches of the armed forces and provides news, information and entertainment products to all U.S. service members and their families, wherever they are.
In addition, the DMA provides a place for those military-related videos to be viewed through the DoD Public Web program, which is a DoD enterprise-level cloud service that provides information sharing through a consolidated content management system.
Some of those videos are by the Pentagon Channel, others by “DOD Live” and some by active-duty service members who produced a video to illustrate the work of their units. One such individually produced video is “Combat Medic,” which details the work of a female army medic who is shown ministering to Afghan children in their village. The medic is interviewed and she stresses the importance and value providing that health care to the children can have.
The website also serves as a source of information for service members who are interested in acquiring communications skills. For example, through its link with the Defense Information School, an interested member of the armed forces can find out when the next Worldwide Military Photography Workshop is scheduled, or that the school offers distance learning in public affairs.
So, for providing an outlet to showcase the video work of professional and non-professionals, the Defense Media Activity’s website is Government Video’s Website of the Week.
