Government Video Website of the Week: Defense Connect Online

Federal employees can use the website to host or participate in online meetings

At a time when tight budgets are limiting travel by federal employees, use of the Department of Defense’s Defense Connect Online website to host or participate in meetings has been growing among government workers hailing from scores of agencies.
There is no fee to use the service, but to gain access to the DCO services — including audio-video Web conferencing, use instant messaging, text chats, facilitate one-way “all-hands” calls from leaders to agency employees — an user must establish an account. About 800,000 federal workers are currently signed up.
The DCO also conducts regular, online training sessions to educate users about the system. The training sessions are conducted at the basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Those interested are directed to click on the “Live Training” link on the website.
For making online meetings, as well as other tools, available to just about any federal employee, Defense Connect Online is Government Video’s Website of the Week.
