Government Video Web Channel Salute: New York City Department of Transportation

There is a lot of great video out there being made by government operations, at all levels of government. Some of the best of these show how individual departments work with local citizens to make their neighborhoods a better, more interesting and safer place to live.

The web channel we’re saluting for the week of Sept. 20, 2013, is the New York City Department of Transportation’s YouTube Channel. New York is a big city with deep resources. Still, the NYC DOT has some serious vision behind its well-produced, entertaining and informative videos. The videos are fun, and show how the diverse population in country’s largest city interacts with transportation. And the NYC DOT is wise enough to know that transportation is not always buses, subways, bridges and roads — sometimes, it’s kids walking on sidewalks and singing about the advantages of walking. If you work in a video department for a government agency, look no further than the NYC DOT’s YouTube channel for inspiration on how to reach out to your constituents and serve the public. This is video well done, and it shines the best possible light on New York City, those who live there and those who keep it running.

For its fun and smart coverage of New York City’s population and transportation, Government Video salutes the New York City Department of Transportation’s YouTube channel.
